Built from a 120-year-old barn in 1960, Jake’s Restaurant became an immediate standby Classic American Steakhouse. Over the last 15 years, Jake Jr. has melded and refined and rustic, vintage and contemporary into Jake’s interior space while still preserving its classic roots.  The rustic elegance of the room with the original working fireplace provides a warm and inviting, comfortable but yet lively dining experience.

Culver’s ButterBurgers are made the way they are today because that’s how his mom always did it. Still, we use fresh, never frozen, 100% Midwest beef, seared to perfection and served on a lightly buttered toasted bun for that extra touch of goodness. Sure, it takes a bit longer doing it that way, but boy is it worth the wait.

Our commitment to crafting the world’s finest Fresh Frozen Custard also remains the same today as when we served our very first scoop. We use the finest dairy, plus cold-pressed vanilla and Dutch-blend chocolate, and make every batch fresh, right in the restaurant throughout the day.

Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts

As a multidisciplinary nonprofit cultural arts facility with an 18-year history of excellence, it is the mission of the Sharon Lynne Wilson Center for the Arts to serve as a catalyst for lifelong discovery and exploration of the arts. Situated in Brookfield’s beautiful Mitchell Park, the Wilson Center is recognized as a cultural anchor in the Greater Milwaukee community and focuses on three main disciplines: performing arts, arts education, and visual arts. Since opening in 2002, the Wilson Center has annually welcomed more than 45,000 people to a diverse array of premier performances, educational programs, classes, festivals, and special events. For event dates, ticket information, and more, please visit our website.

Wilson Center Highlights:

  • Arts education for students– From a performance series for students to workshops and residences that connect professional artists with students to a week-long summer comprehensive arts and nature camp that allows students to experience dance, theatre, and visual art through an environmental scope, the Wilson Center annually welcomes more than 10,000 students—many of whom are experiencing the arts for the first time.
  • Starry Nights Concert Series– A free outdoor concert series held on Friday evenings during the summer. Gather your family and friends, pack your lawn chairs and picnic basket, and find your perfect spot in our beautiful backyard.
  • The international Wilson Center Guitar Festival– In addition to live competition rounds in five different genres—blues, classical, fingerstyle, jazz, and rock—that are free and open to the public, the annual Festival offers something for guitar lovers of all ages, to include master classes and workshops, leading industry vendors featuring the latest and greatest guitar gear, live music from local artists, guitar exhibits, guitar yoga, a ticketed headliner concert featuring guitar legends, and more. Ok so – how did NORTH STAR get started? If you ask Mike and Duffy – they’ll tell you they had a couple of beers, found a place and the rest is history. And ok, those things did happen, but there’s a lot of other stuff that happened in between. Duffy and Mike have been in the restaurant industry for a long time and their paths finally crossed while working for a restaurant group in Milwaukee. After the previously mentioned beers, they found a place in Shorewood (now across the street from where you are sitting – if you are sitting in Shorewood) and on a shoestring budget – we are talking tiny: as in paint the place yourself and have your mom sew some curtains kind of budget – the first NORTH STAR AMERICAN BISTRO SHOREWOOD was born. A few months later, so was Duffy’s first child and then things got REALLY crazy – but that’s another story. Anyway, turns out – people really liked the REAL.GOOD.FOOD. menu and concept AND they liked Mike and Duffy (which is a good thing because back in the day if you didn’t like Mike and Duffy, you didn’t really have any other options – they were there doing all of the jobs at all times. Did you ever see that I Love Lucy episode where Lucy goes to the train station and asks the conductor where she can buy a ticket and he says – “One minute – I’ll get the ticket agent.” So he goes in the back, changes his hat and comes back and sells her the ticket? That was Mike and Duffy.) Eventually though, staff was added and the entirely too hectic life that was theirs slowed to moderately crazy, which left them just enough time to open NORTH STAR AMERICAN BISTRO BROOKFIELD.
