Pack a cooler, bring the family…

Brookfield is home to some of southeastern Wisconsin’s most breathtaking parks and recreation areas.  From large county areas to small neighborhood parks, areas of beautiful, open, green space beckon.

The Greenway Trail System is a comprehensive city-wide off-street system of recreational trails that connect existing parks together with other community facilities and to the regional trail system. The system will also connect neighborhoods in a new way which will provide safe routes for children and lead to expanded possibilities for community interaction. The funding for this major parkland initiative is generated through anticipated lease revenues from wireless communication companies who lease city property. For more information on the Greenway Trail system, visit www.ci.brookfield.wi.us.

Fox Brook Park is a 223-acre park that offers a variety of recreational and open spaces including a 22-acre quarry lake with a spacious lodge, volleyball area and sandy beach.  The 138-acre wetland is a natural resource, preserved and protected as natural habitat and open space, to allow many bird species like Bold Finches and Indigo Buntings to flourish.  Walk or jog the paved mile-long, multi-use trail that winds around the lake.  Rest a moment in the three wildlife viewing areas or rent a pedal boat and take a leisurely cruise around the quarry lake.  For an ideal family-friendly activity, bring your fishing pole!  We encourage and support the “catch and release” practice of fishing so that kids of all ages can enjoy the thrill of catching a Northern Bass, Bluegill, Perch or Crappie.  Please note that a current, valid, Wisconsin fishing license is required.  For information, visit http://www.waukeshacounty.gov/foxbrook.
